Early Years Foundation Stage and other Helpful Guidance

The EYFS or Early Years Foundation Stage is the curriculum which is followed by the majority of Early Years Settings.  It is also the curriculum your child will follow until the end of Reception.

The EYFS areas of learning are:

  • communication and language.
  • physical development.
  • personal, social and emotional development.
  • literacy.
  • mathematics.
  • understanding the world.
  • expressive arts and design.

The full curriculum can be found here –

A useful document for parents and carers is ‘What to expect, when’ published by Action for Children.  This gives guidance as to what to expect as your child goes through the stages of the EYFS.  Please see the link below;

At First Steps we aim to support parents and carers in their understanding of the EYFS through Parent Consultations, Curriculum Days and through information at pre-school.
