Early Years Foundation Stage and other Helpful Guidance

The EYFS or Early Years Foundation Stage is the curriculum which is followed by the majority of Early Years Settings.  It is also the curriculum your child will follow until the end of Reception.  We will be following the revised EYFS from September 2021.

The EYFS areas of learning are:

  • communication and language.
  • physical development.
  • personal, social and emotional development.
  • literacy.
  • mathematics.
  • understanding the world.
  • expressive arts and design.

The full curriculum can be found here –

EYFS framework 2021

The Department for Education has released a new guide for parents to go alongside the new EYFS.  This gives guidance as to what to expect as your child goes through the stages of the EYFS.  Please see the link below;

At First Steps we aim to support parents and carers in their understanding of the EYFS through Parent Consultations, Curriculum Days and through information at pre-school.

We follow Norfolk school term dates

Summer Term ends on 22nd July 2022

Emergency closures: If there is a need to close during a session, staff will contact parents/carers via telephone. If we are unable to contact you we will work down your list of contacts - please ensure these details are kept up to date. Should the preschool be closed for weather or other unplanned purposes, we will update with information via our website http://www.firststepsashill.co.uk and will send a group email to you. Alternatively you can email Lou to clarify. We will do our very best to give you notice of any closure, but this may not always be possible.
